Contest Success with George Lloyd's 'Diversions on a Bass Theme'

November has been a busy time for the band preparing for two contests. All this hard work has paid off with a 2nd place at Gloucestershire GBBA Contest on 20th November followed a further 2nd place in First Section at Weymouth WBBA Contest on 26th November. These results are particularly encouraging for the band with so many changes in personnel over the last few months and the move to new rehearsal facilities.

This was a contest of firsts with our new MD Helen Kinder conducting for the first time on a contest podium and Denis Curlett and James Fletcher playing Principal Cornet and Principal Euphonium respectively for the first time with Hyde Band. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Helen for all her hard work leading us to two great results and welcome our new players, Denis Curlett, Mike Burroughs, Gary Robert, Dave Cruse and Rebecca Woodford.

The band is now looking forward to a busy Christmas season and to start preparations for the West of England Regional Championships in March 2012. With these two fantastic results under our belt 2012 promises to be a good year for Hyde Band.
